Fresh Starts & Routines!
Welcome back to all our returning and new students & families!
Whether you're a parent or a student, this back-to-school season is all about embracing fresh starts. It's a time to set intentions, build bridges, and begin this school year together. Remember, every day is a chance to learn, inspire, and make a difference in each other's lives. Together, let's celebrate the exciting moments, overcome challenges, and champion progress every step of the way!
This Month at HEB
In honor of Truth and Reconciliation, I am reaching out to our HEB families to offer support in honoring and learning the Indigenous culture and history. We will not only be honoring Truth and Reconciliation the week of September 23rd to the 27th but in hopes of providing knowledge throughout our school year. With that we ask for support from students and families that are comfortable sharing their knowledge and history. This would include mini teachings for our daily announcements, like language, history, or ways of life. If you or your child is interested or have questions please contact me via email: whitney.malo@nlsd.ab.ca with the subject line “Truth and Reconciliation 2024,” by Thursday September 19th, 2024.

About the Student Advocacy Counsellor Program
The focus of the counseling program is to increase the student’s ability in the area of problem-solving specific challenges that they are experiencing within the school environment and to support their personal and social skill development. The programs offered are, psychoeducational one-on-one sessions, small groups, and collaboration with school and external services when necessary. These services are not a substitute for diagnosis or treatment of a mental health disorder.
This year I will be offering one-on-one sessions and psychoeducational small groups for students, universal presentations, ROK Talk, and continue to offer referrals to outside agencies and exclusively the NLPS Pathways of Hope program. In addition, I will be coordinating the Community Helpers Program for eligible grade 7 and 8’s. This year I will be opening up Community Helpers Nomination process for teachers and parents to nominate students!
